🌧️ How to Connect With Your Breath During Unpredictable Times

Finding the calm before, during, and after the storm

Life doesn’t always move in a straight line. Healing isn’t always linear.

Some days feel light, easy, and clear… and others feel overwhelming, uncertain, or completely out of our control.

Just like the weather this time of year—sunny one moment, stormy the next. Life can feel unpredictable, messy, chaotic.

While we can’t always control what’s happening around us, we can control how we respond.
And one of the most powerful tools we have is something we carry with us at all times:

Our breath.

Your breath is more than just something that keeps you alive—it’s a direct connection to your nervous system, your energy, and your ability to feel grounded no matter what’s going on around you.

🌿 Before the Storm: Grounding Your Energy

Before things feel overwhelming, your breath can help you come back to center and create a sense of stability within yourself.

Try this simple grounding breath:

Equal Breathing (Sama Vritti)

  • Inhale for 4
  • Exhale for 4
  • Repeat for a few minutes

This creates balance in the body and helps you feel more steady, present, and prepared—like taking a deep breath before stepping into whatever the day may bring.

🌧️ During the Storm: Calming the Nervous System

When you’re in the middle of stress, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm, your breath often becomes shallow and quick.

This is your body’s natural response—but it can also keep you stuck in that heightened state.

By intentionally slowing your breath, you can signal to your body that you are safe.

Lengthened Exhale Breath

  • Inhale for 4
  • Exhale for 6

Repeat for a few rounds, letting the exhale soften your shoulders, your jaw, your entire body.

Longer exhales activate the parasympathetic nervous system—the part of your body responsible for rest, calm, and regulation.

Even a minute of this can begin to shift how you feel.

🌤️ After the Storm: Releasing & Resetting

Once things settle, your breath can help you release any lingering tension and come back to a place of ease.

Sometimes we carry stress long after the moment has passed—this is your chance to let it go.

Sighing Breath

  • Inhale deeply through the nose
  • Exhale out of the mouth with a gentle sigh

Let it be audible. Let it be soft. Let it be real.

This type of breath helps release built-up tension and creates space for your body to reset.

🌊 Coming Back to Yourself

Your breath is always there for you.

In the middle of chaos.
In moments of stillness.
In the in-between.

You don’t need anything fancy.
You don’t need a perfect setting.

Just one conscious breath can begin to shift everything.

So the next time life feels unpredictable—
pause, soften, and come back to your breath.

Your calm is something you can create for yourself from within. 💗✨
