As summer slowly begins to wind down, many of us feel the urge to reset. Maybe it’s the back-to-school buzz in the air, maybe it’s the earlier sunsets, or maybe your soul is just quietly asking for a little more structure again. Either way, late August is the perfect time to return to your mat — or redefine your relationship with it.
There’s something deeply comforting about the ritual of yoga during transitional seasons. When everything around us is shifting — schedules, temperatures, sunlight, energy — the mat becomes an anchor. It’s a place to land, to process, and to reconnect.
But this return doesn’t have to be rigid or full of pressure. Instead, think of it as a homecoming. Whether you’ve practiced every day this summer or barely touched your mat, now is a beautiful time to begin again — with gentleness, curiosity, and intention.
Here’s how I recommend embracing a yoga reset right now:
🧘♀️ Start where you are.
Let go of where you think you “should” be. Whether you’re feeling strong and energized or stiff and sluggish, meet yourself there. Let your first few practices be exploratory — light, playful, and full of breath.
🌙 Shift with the season.
Late summer calls for a balance of grounding and energizing. Flows that open the hips, twist the spine, and build warmth while also offering moments of stillness. I love combining gentle vinyasa with longer holds, ending with a juicy savasana and cooling breathwork.
💛 Reconnect with intention.
Ask yourself: Why am I returning to this practice right now? Maybe you need clarity. Maybe you need routine. Maybe you just need to stretch and breathe again. Let your intention guide your movement.
📅 Make a new rhythm.
Consistency doesn’t have to mean every day. Maybe it’s a weekly class, a 15-minute morning flow, or rolling out your mat every Sunday night to reset for the week ahead. Find what feels sustainable and sacred.
📔 Keep a yoga journal.
Even just one sentence after your practice: “I feel lighter.” “I cried in pigeon pose again.” “That felt so good.” You’ll start to notice patterns, progress, and what your body and heart are really craving.
💫 Remember it’s not just about movement.
Your yoga reset might also include breathwork, meditation, or simply lying on your mat with one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Your presence is the practice.
Whether you’re returning to the studio, unrolling your mat at home, or joining me outdoors while the summer sun still shines — I hope your practice feels like a deep exhale. A way back to yourself.
This season, let your yoga practice be your anchor, your mirror, and your soft place to land. You don’t need to wait until fall officially arrives — your reset starts the moment you say yes to yourself again.
See you on the mat 💛
