Sunshine & Savasana: Outdoor Yoga Tips for Warmer Days

The sun is out, the breeze is soft, and your mat is calling for a change of scenery. Practicing yoga outside can feel like a total reset—mind, body, and soul. It reconnects you to the present moment and reminds you that you are nature, too.

Whether you’re heading to the park, your backyard, or a quiet beach at golden hour, here are some tips to help you flow with ease under the open sky.

🌿 What to Bring for Outdoor Yoga Bliss

Practicing outside doesn’t require much—but a few simple items can make a big difference:

  • Yoga Mat or Towel: A mat with grip is great on grass, or opt for a big towel or blanket if you’re on sand.
  • Water Bottle: Hydration is key—especially in the sun.
  • Sunscreen & Sunglasses: Protect your skin and eyes so you can stay present, not squinty.
  • Bug Spray: Especially helpful near trees, grass, or water.
  • Optional Extras: A portable speaker for calming music, a journal for post-practice reflections, or a crystal if you love setting intentions.

🌼 Poses That Feel Amazing in Nature

Practicing outside invites us to soften and ground. These poses are especially lovely with the earth beneath you and sky above:

  • Mountain Pose (Tadasana): Root down through your feet and lift your gaze—feel the connection between you and the world.
  • Tree Pose (Vrksasana): Stand tall and balance with the trees. Let yourself sway a little—it’s all part of the practice.
  • Wide-Leg Forward Fold: A perfect way to feel rooted while releasing tension.
  • Low Lunge + Twist: Great for opening up the hips and shoulders while soaking in the breeze.
  • Seated Forward Fold or Butterfly Pose: Fold inward and listen to the sounds around you.
  • Savasana in the Sunlight: Lay back, close your eyes, and let the warmth of the sun hold you.

Pro tip: Savasana on the grass? Next level bliss. (Just don’t forget that bug spray!)

🌸 My Favorite Outdoor Yoga Spots

Here are a few places I love practicing when the weather warms up:

  • Local parks—especially the ones I grew up going to (Ask me for details!) ☀️
  • Down the shore—with my toes in the sand and the sound of waves crashing 🌊
  • In my own backyard—so peaceful and no packing required 💛

Want to join me outdoors this season? I’m planning a few local pop-up yoga sessions this summer and fall! Be sure to sign up for my Mindfulness Monthly newsletter to be the first to know.

🌞 Your Reminder

You don’t have to practice perfectly.
You don’t need silence or stillness all around you.
Let the birds, the breeze, and even the occasional bark or bike be part of your practice.

Let it be imperfect, alive, and real.

Let it remind you how good it feels to just be.
