Since World Mental Health Day recently passed on Monday, I wanted to take a second to explain 5 reasons why you should take a mental health day. Don’t forget how important it is to take care of your mental health too, not just your physical health. Sit back, relax, make yourself a cup of tea, and enjoy your day off. Whether you spend it in bed catching on up on sleep or knock off some items off your to-do list, you get to decide the way you want to spend it.
- Helps with stress
We all are up to our neck in projects, family and friend commitments, work, life.. it all adds up and I’m stressed out just thinking about it. According to research, work is the leading cause of stress. If you consistently feel anxious or nervous when you get to work that’s a guide that you need a mental health day.
- Be more productive when you get back
By taking one day off you can refresh your mind, realign priorities and be more productive the next day.
- Tackle your to-do list
Not your work to-do list, your personal one. You know that one that always gets pushed to the back burner. Well today is your day to tackle that. Been meaning to clean your living room or try a new recipe? Today is the day you will try new things. Allowing yourself to catch up on personal pleasures will allow you to return to your desk in a healthier mental state.
- Catch up on some Zs
Sleep in on your day off. It’s hard to find the right work-life balance, so we all are lacking on sleep. Take a nap or sleep in and your mood will be enhanced and you’ll return to work ready to take on tasks!
- Explore your neighborhood
Did a new coffee shop or brunch restaurant open up down the street for you? Go on an adventure. Experiences like these will make you happy.
